When I first heard about the pastoral opportunity at Hillcrest the first thing I did was try to find its website. Needless to say that perhaps the one thing the World Wide Web has been missing was a tiny little space where Hillcrest could connect with each other and beyond in more expression.

I decided that instead of waiting to develop a website committee that would be explore all possible implications and nuances of church websites I thought I would experiment with developing a blog (short for web log). Having a blog as your website can have many great advantages.
1. Its free (I don’t know about Ontario but in Manitoba that is a pretty sweet word for Mennonites).
2. It comes with prepackaged user friendly editing format.
3. Perhaps the best part of having a blog as your church website is that anyone interested in having something appear on it can post it themselves from their own computer when they have the password (this would include posting pictures of events right after they happen). In addition to this anyone can respond to a particular post with just a click of the mouse (make corrections or updates to New and Notes or something).
4. Having a webspace in general also allows people who have moved away or are on service work to update us on how they are doing and also hear what we are up to.
5. There is also a little section below called “labels” each time someone posts they can put a label on it (i.e. “Youth”, “News and Notes”, perhaps the name of someone working abroad). Then anyone interested in that “label” can click on it in the column on the right.

Just click on “comments” below to let me know what you think.
